These days it is so easy to travel from the UK to France with several transport options. The existence of the Eurotunnel has made access to France simple and quick.
Ferries cross the channel from Portsmouth, Poole, Dover and Plymouth, throughout the year, offering the traveller another option for transporting the car for a driving holiday in France.
This region is served by several airports, including Limoges but the nearest airport is Bergerac 40 minutes away. There are frequent flights to Bergerac from many of the major UK airports including Bristol, East Midlands, Exeter, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, London Gatwick, London Stansted and Southampton. Flights take just over an hour. Make sure you book early to get a good deal.
The Dordogne is a beautiful department that is popular with UK visitors It has a lush green landscape and is famous for its ancient caves and cave art. Lascaux has the most well known caves in the region. Perigueux is worth visiting and it is here that the visitor can see Roman ruins, which include an arena, close to the town centre.
The area is full of quaint villages just waiting to be discovered, with excellent bakeries and first rate cuisine. For those who are flying to their destination, Bergerac airport is a great place to hire a car. Many UK airports only fly to Bergerac during the summer months, although some do fly there throughout the year. Despite its popularity with visitors from around Europe, the Dordogne is never crowded, even in the high season and it is possible to find great discounts and travel deals for train, plane or ferry tickets, as well as excellent car hire deals.
