Tremolat is a beautiful village which boasts a tower, old houses and a Romanesque church. The church of St Nicholas is listed as an Historical Monument. It is a fortified church which served as a refuge and defence in times of trouble, thankfuly never used in anger.
St Hilaire's Chapel was built in the twelfth-century. It is so simple with gravel floor and resident bats. In the 1950's the inhabitants clubbed together to renovate the building. The windows were designed by Paul Becker. From the outside of the building they look as if someone has pushed broken glass into cement! From the inside they come alive and are spectacular, especially on a sunny day.
Above the bend in the river there is a natural viewpoint, the panoramic view is breathtaking; it is a listed beauty spot, described by Andre Maurois as one of the wonders of the world.
Tremolat has many leisure and sporting activities to offer: 4x4 safari, rambling and mountain-biking, canoeing, water-skiing, swimming and fishing, archery and miniature golf etc. Not to mention the gourmet delights of local strawberries, mushrooms, walnuts, chestnuts, foie gras, and wine.
Vieux Logis Tremolat
A member of the Relais & Chateaux collection, this high standard hotel has been in the same family for over 450 years. Originally a simple tobacco barn, the building was renovated under the close eye of Mrs. Giraudel (the current owner's mother). She transformed the property into a first class hotel at a time when tourism in the Perigord was only just beginning. Although the house has been fully redecorated, it has never lost any of its original "cachet". Every book, every piece of furniture and every armchair is original and holds its individual story of 4 centuries.
